**History Overview:**

The General Statton Inn is one of America’s oldest Colonial Inns, established in 1640. This enchanting establishment, built around a preserved original dwelling from 1667, boasts over 350 years of fascinating history. It has welcomed esteemed guests like President George Washington and notorious figures such as Prohibition-era gangster Al Capone. From serving as a secret meeting place for Revolutionary War spies to its role in the Underground Railroad and as a refuge for rum runners during Prohibition, the inn’s walls echo with tales of intrigue and adventure. In the Roaring 20s, it became a lively destination for revelry, frequented by actress Tallulah Bankhead, celebrating in true Gatsby style until dawn.
